Jean Bragg opened her first antique shop in New Orleans in 1979, specializing in Newcomb College Pottery and Louisiana paintings. Since 1980, she traveled in the United States, participating in antique shows and lecturing on Newcomb arts and crafts. In 1991, Bragg re-opened her Gallery on Magazine Street, providing the best in Louisiana painting and pottery to the collectors and museums across the country. [1]

The Gallery’s exhibitions of Southern Art acquaint the public with the importance of the regional school in landscape and architectural subjects. These Gallery shows, often documented by full-color research catalogs, significantly add to the history of art and art education in the South. [2]

In the spring of 2005, the Gallery relocated to the New Orleans Arts District in the important Julia Street Row. This 1832 building is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. With this move, the Gallery began to showcase both emerging and established contemporary artists to promote local talent and complement the aims of the growing Arts District. [3]

Every month, the Gallery mounts a new exhibition of contemporary art, both solo and group shows, and opens its doors to an Art Walk the first Saturday evening of the month. The shows spotlight Louisiana landscape and culture and celebrate that which is unique to the city of New Orleans. It is a time to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments and music New Orleans style! [4]

Jean Bragg has become a strong voice for her community as President of the New Orleans Arts District and a member of the advisory board of the Downtown Development District. Since the devastation of the storms of 2005, it is clear that the Arts have become a true catalyst for the recovery of the city. [5]
